What to Expect in Therapy

At SoulCare, we offer a well-rounded, flexible approach to therapy that is tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. Whether you are seeking therapy for yourself, your child, or a family member, we strive to create a comfortable and supportive environment where everyone can thrive. We believe in the importance of engaging, hands-on methods and incorporating movement whenever possible, even stepping outside when appropriate. We also offer telehealth options to make therapy accessible from the comfort of your own home.

Our therapists integrate various therapeutic approaches, focusing on understanding the deeper emotional patterns and helping clients explore how past experiences may be influencing their current life. This insight, combined with practical strategies, can help create lasting change.

Adults

In therapy for adults, we focus on a collaborative approach that combines evidence-based techniques to address issues like anxiety, depression, stress, and life transitions. Expect to engage in thoughtful discussions, goal setting, and active problem-solving. We aim to create a space where you feel heard, empowered, and equipped with practical tools to enhance your emotional well-being. Additionally, some therapists may explore deeper emotional patterns that can provide insight into your current experiences and relationships.

Adolescents (14+)

For adolescents ages 14 and older, therapy is designed to address concerns like identity, relationships, academic pressures, emotional regulation, and peer dynamics. Due to Pennsylvania state laws, clients aged 14 and up have the right to confidentiality regarding the topics discussed in therapy, meaning parents may not have access to the details of the therapy sessions unless the adolescent gives permission. This empowers teens to explore sensitive issues in a safe, trusting environment. Sessions are interactive and can include activities outside of the traditional office setting, such as walking sessions or using creative outlets like art and writing. Teens are encouraged to express themselves openly while learning skills to navigate life’s challenges, with a focus on understanding underlying emotions that influence their behavior and interactions.

Children (Under 14)

Children under 14 benefit from a play-based approach, where therapy often includes interactive activities like drawing, games, and storytelling to help them express themselves. Sessions focus on addressing emotional regulation, behavioral concerns, social skills, and family dynamics. Parents are encouraged to be involved in the process to provide support and consistency at home, ensuring progress continues outside of sessions. Through play, we also explore the emotions and experiences that may affect their behaviors and social interactions.

Young Children (Under 8, Parent Involvement Required)

For young children, therapy involves close collaboration with parents or caregivers. We understand that children at this stage learn best with the guidance and support of their families. Sessions may include play therapy, behavioral strategies, and coaching to help parents better understand and address their child’s needs. We’ll work together to create a positive, nurturing environment at home and school to support your child’s growth, while also considering emotional patterns that can guide long-term development.

Parent Coaching

Parent coaching is a collaborative process that empowers caregivers to effectively address their child’s unique needs and challenges. This service provides practical, evidence-based strategies that can make a meaningful difference in your parenting journey.

Parent coaching requires dedication and consistency but offers a supportive, tailored approach to help you meet your goals. Sessions can be conducted in person or virtually to fit your family’s schedule and needs.

  • Structured or Flexible Approach: Sessions can follow a curriculum-based framework or focus on addressing challenges as they arise in your family’s daily life.

  • Skill-Building: Learn and practice strategies to improve communication, manage behaviors, and foster positive interactions within the family.

  • Individualized Support: Each session is customized to your child’s developmental, emotional, and behavioral needs, as well as your family dynamics.

Parent coaching is not just about solving problems—it’s about building a foundation for long-term growth and success.

Whether through in-person sessions or telehealth, our goal is to provide the right blend of approaches that will help each individual or family thrive in their unique circumstances. We look forward to working with you!
